3-5 day turnaround
You probably need this if
You manufacture modular or adaptable lab furniture and need SEFA 10 results for a bid or specification
You’re launching a new bench system, frame or shelving design
You want to rate your system at a higher worksurface load category
What the test involves
01
Test configurations
A representative bench assembly is set up single or double sided, either cantilevered from its support or supported by leg
02
Strength
Shelves are loaded first, then the worksurface is loaded to the category the manufacturer is rating for, from 200 lb up to 1,200 lb per side. Deflection is measured at several points and must stay within SEFA’s limits
03
Stability (anchored units)
A sideways force is applied at the top of the fully loaded assembly and its movement is measured
04
Overturning (free-standing units)
The unit is tilted 10 degrees in its least stable direction and must not tip or shed parts
Common questions
What is SEFA 10?
It’s SEFA’s standard for laboratory grade adaptable furniture: modular systems of frames, cabinets, worksurfaces and shelving that can be reconfigured or relocated. The current edition is SEFA 10-2020.
What’s the difference between SEFA 10 and SEFA 8?
SEFA 8 covers traditional lab casework (cabinets, tables and shelving) by material. SEFA 10 covers adaptable systems built from modular components. Fixed, floor mounted casework (Class 1 in SEFA 10) is evaluated to SEFA 8.
Does SEFA 10 testing have to be done by an approved lab?
Yes. The standard requires testing to be performed and documented by a SEFA-approved third-party lab. Gaynes Labs is on SEFA’s approved list for SEFA 3, 7, 8 and 10.
Not certain SEFA 10 is the right test?
Send us an email, give us a call, or schedule time to chat. We can answer your questions and let you know which standard applies for your situation.
