Common questions
What is UN certification?
UN certification shows that a packaging design has passed the performance tests required for shipping hazardous materials, such as drop, stacking and vibration. A certified design carries a UN mark that identifies the packaging type, the packing groups it’s rated for and who certified it.
How often does UN packaging need to be recertified?
It depends on the packaging type. Combination packagings (an outer box with inner bottles, cans or jars) and infectious substance packagings must be retested at least every 24 months. Single and composite packagings (drums, pails, jerricans and bags) and IBCs must be retested at least every 12 months. New packaging for hazardous materials cannot be made after the UN certification expiration date.
