Materials Testing Industry Applications
Packaging Material Suppliers
We test corrugated, foam, plastic film, and rigid plastic materials against specifications and performance requirements. Testing includes tensile, compression, burst strength, tear, ply separation, puncture, density, and coefficient of friction.
Laboratory Furniture
We perform SEFA 3 chemical and stain resistance testing for horizontal laboratory work surfaces, exposing materials to the full reagent panel.
Automotive
We test mechanical, durability, and flammability properties for interior and exterior components, including seat foams, carpets, headliners, and interior plastics.
Aerospace
We conduct flammability testing for aircraft cabin interior materials (foams, plastics, textiles, composites), plus tensile, density, and abrasion testing for aerospace packaging and component materials.
Healthcare & Medical Devices
We perform tensile, tear, burst strength, and seal integrity testing to support packaging validation.

Frequently asked questions
What is SEFA 3 testing and who needs it?
SEFA 3 is the chemical and physical performance standard established by the Scientific Equipment and Furniture Association for horizontal laboratory work surfaces (countertops, bench tops, and work surfaces).
The standard evaluates a surface material's resistance to chemical spills, abrasion and scratching, heat and thermal shock, impact, and water absorption. SEFA 3 requires testing to be performed by an independent third-party laboratory. Gaynes Labs performs SEFA 3 testing as an independent third-party facility.
What is flammability testing and when is it required for my material?
Flammability testing evaluates how a material responds to an ignition source, measuring burn rate, flame spread, self-extinguishing behavior, and related properties.
It is required across a wide range of industries (e.g., aerospace, automotive, building products, etc.) and applications where materials must meet defined fire safety standards before they can be used in a finished product.
